Blepharoplasty to Treat Droopy Lids and Brows

Close up of droopy eyelid

Blepharoplasty, also called eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure that can help improve the appearance of drooping, sagging lids, and brows. The procedure removes excess fat, skin, and muscle from the lids and brows to give a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

It can also improve vision if sagging lids interfere with a patient’s visual field and ability to see. An upper blepharoplasty concerns the upper eyelids, while a lower blepharoplasty improves the lower eyelids. An upper and lower blepharoplasty may be necessary depending on the patient and their needs.

Tearing

Tearing occurs if the tear ducts suffer a blockage or obstruction. Patients with tearing will have excessive tearing or watering of the eyes. A surgical procedure performed by the oculoplastic surgeons at OcuSight can remove the obstruction and allow the eye to discharge tears properly.

Lesions

Lesions are usually growths on the skin. They can either be malignant, meaning they are cancerous, or benign, meaning they are not cancerous. Removing the lesions can prevent them from spreading or leading to other problems.

Orbital Bone Fracture Surgery

If the orbital bone becomes fractured or broken, it can lead to swelling, pain, and vision loss. Surgery to repair an orbital bone fracture helps restore the function and appearance of the orbital bone and surrounding areas.

Reconstruction Due to Cancer

Cancer reconstruction is a procedure that repairs the area around the eye that’s been afflicted and affected due to cancer. The procedure helps improve the area’s function and restore the appearance of what was damaged or removed due to cancer.

Decompressions

Decompressions are surgical procedures that relieve pressure in the optic nerve or the eye socket. You may need a decompression to treat something like Graves’ disease, which often leads to the bulging of eyes in patients.

Orbital Surgery

Orbital surgery refers to surgical procedures performed around the eye socket. These procedures are often done to remove tumors, repair trauma around the eye, or assist in treating other conditions that can affect the eye socket.

Browpexy

A browpexy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses internal sutures to attach the brow to a higher position. Minimally elevating and stabilizing the brow is helpful, primarily if browpexy is performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty, which it usually is. Performing both procedures together help to ensure the eyelids are lifted as well as the brow.
